Are you aware how important it is to exercise as we reach our older year?
Here are some of the reasons:
- Bone Health – reduce the risk and effect of osteoporosis.
- Stress reduction - Stress wears your body down.
- Reduce loss of muscle - loss of strength can seriously impact your quality of life.
- Improve balance and stability – one in three people over age 65 falls each year.
I can help you get started and learn ways to reduce the effects of these areas and to have a better quality of life.
Strength Training
Older people need strength training more than the young, in order to counteract the decline in muscle strength that usually comes with aging, due to decreasing activity. Stronger muscles, in turn mean stronger bones, thus reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.
Stabilization and Balance Training
It is never too late to reap the benefits of exercise. Walking, stretching, weight training, dancing, yoga, etc – can improve mobility and balance even after a fall. One of my main focus’ for both young and old is stabilization and balance training.
Stress Reduction
It is proven that physical activity works to combat stress. Exercise not only reduces the effects of stress but also helps your body to handle stress better. It is suggested that you participate in at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day, at least five days a week. Find something you like and stick with.
